Z-Wave is a recent and new generation wireless system, initially developed by Zensys in Danmark, that allows all electronic elements to communicate to each other and to the user wirelessly. After the first installations, a Z-Wave Alliance was established in 2005 as a consortium of companies that make connected appliances controlled through apps on smartphones, tablets, or computers using Z-Wave wireless mesh networking technology. It uses a radio signal with a frequency of 920.9 MHz, 921.7 MHz, 923.1 MHz (for Thailand, Standard Clause 2, Article 58-2 of Radio Waves Act) and a maximum emitted power of around 20 – 30 mW.
In doing so, it uses simple, reliable, low-power radio waves that easily pass through walls.
Z-Wave uses the Mesh network topology so that it can extend much longer than the radio waves of a single unit. The system is straightforward and easy, both to install and to use, and practically does not require much knowledge and time to install and start operation. This system is mainly used for homes with do-it-yourself solutions.
However, the only catch with Z-Wave is that there is a limit to the number of times signals can be transmitted through devices, which is 4. This makes it less prone to congestion.
Nevertheless, it is easy to deploy, offers commendable performance, reduces energy requirements, and is future-proof because Z-Wave will show backward compatibility with outdated devices.
Many new construction projects are still being built without proper building technology and planning for the future. Maybe together we can change that.
